SAG Awards 2008

The ceremony overall: Disappointing, subdued, and lackluster. Is it because of the strike? A sudden loss? Both? Who knows. I'm just not feeling the award shows this year for some reason.
SAG Awards 2008:
TV:
Presenter(s) mention: Tina Fey and Steve Carell so need to work together. Like yesterday.
Best Actor, Actress, Drama Series: All things The Sopranos
Sympathy/Farewell winners of the season. Yay for never coming back! I haven't watched the show so I shouldn't be so cruel and close-minded, but I just don't think they deserved to win just because they had their last season. Ugh.
Best Actor and Actress - Comedy: Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
I love Tina Fey so YAY for her! I'm meh on Alec Baldwin as an actor, but I do want to check out 30 Rock.
Presenter(s) mention: Dreamboat James Marsden!!!!! (he presented with Kate Beckinsale for Best Comedy Lead Actor) I seriously will see 27 Dresses again, just for him. :D Bitch and his TN friend saw it last night, and they basically agree with me about James Marsden and the movie. I miss my Bitch!
Best Comedy Ensemble: The Office
YAY, I hope to start watching the show in the next three days while I'm off work.
Best Actor - TV movie/miniseries: Kevin Kline, As You Like It
He wasn't there. I didn't watch the HBO film but I do love Kevin Kline.
Best Actress - TV movie/miniseries: Queen Latifah, Life Support
She wasn't there. I didn't watch it. Good for her, though, I guess. My mom loves her. Hee.
Presenter(s) mention: Wtf was up with Mickey Rooney? First, he rambles on like he was paying SAG back for not giving him the Lifetime Achievement Award, then he says that there was a TIE for this award? Huh? Mickey Rooney is high...on delusional crack.
Lifetime Achievement Award:
I didn't know Charles Durning by name, but I've seen him in a few of his roles. The Sting and Rescue Me being the two prominent. I know other people, other movie fans, might have known his name, but I guess I think a good sign that an actor is doing a great job is when people don't know his real name. They just know him from that film or this television show. However, I might have to check out some of his films now. I also loved how he went on living his life while getting turned down by so many people in show business, but never giving up. That's admirable, imo. I loved his response of "That's it?" LOL!
Three more notes: 01.) I &hearts Denis Leary. I need to finish watching Rescue Me 02.) VO movie trailer guy was INTENSE! I couldn't stop laughing throughout the montage tribute. He is the one that does all the thriller/horror movie trailer VO work. He so didn't need to do this. 03.) Burt Reynolds was acting fucking strange. Like he was high or something. It was a bit comical, but mostly it was boring. I now wonder if he is usually like this...? Whatever.
Memoriam:
Not many people were clapping during the Memoriam like they usually do. It was underwhelming, imo. Even though I always seem to, I was tearing up a lot this year. I still can't seem to wrap my head around the fact that Heath Ledger has died. I shouldn't be feeling like this for a person, an actor, I don't know, but I do. I've admired him and his acting since I was a teenager, I was eager to see what he would do next. To know that he won't grace us with anymore delightfully diverse performances is staggering to me. I watched 10 Things I Hate About You last night and I found myself tearing up and laughing (and rewinding a lot) in equal measure. It's silly, I'm silly, but I'll miss not seeing him in any more new films, The Dark Knight notwithstanding.
Film:
Best Supporting Actress: Ruby Lee, American Gangster
Haven't seen the film. Don't really know who she is but she had some funky glasses. I muted her because she was rambling. I don't like long speeches.
Best Supporting Actor: Javier Bardem, No Country for Old Men
Yay! Loved his speech. And it has to be said that he was looking damn fine! He and Jeffrey Dean Morgan could so play brothers. Heh. (
Presenter(s) mention: Marion Cotillard's dress was gorgeous!
Best Lead Actress: Julie Christie, Away From Her
Ugh, she came off pretentious in her speech, imo. I don't know, she just came across smug to me. I do want to see Away From Her, but only because of Sarah Polley.
Best Lead Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis, There Will Be Blood
His lovely, touching speech made me cry, and it was much better than (the quick add-on to) the Memoriam was. I wanted Emile Hirsch to win (too), but only because I loved him so much in Into the Wild, and because I still haven't seen There Will Be Blood. Need to do that, but I'm also hoping that AMC Theatres will do that AMC Best Pictue Showcase thing again this year. *crosses fingers*
Best Film Ensemble Cast: No Country for Old Men
Good call. I was torn between this and Into the Wild. Josh Brolin and his speech had me LOL'ing. A lot! I frakking love Josh Brolin!
Presenter(s) mention: What was with Tom Cruise presenting the Best Ensemble award and closing the show? Totally random to me but whatever.
Unrelated sidenotes:
01.) My mom bought a new PC. It came Thursday. She brought it back home on Friday. It's okay. I have the old one in my room now. I have to pay her for it, which means adding the expense onto my Bank Mom loans list. Heh.
02.) My sister and cousin TT came over yesterday, while my BIL was setting up my mom's computer, and decided to take charge of my disaster of a room. They didn't believe I would clean it (untrue) so they did it themselves. It looks nice but grrrrrr. I don't like when people do that to me.
02.) I watched a Hallmark movie after the SAGs. LOL. I haven't watched one of those in a long time. It starred Amber Tamblyn, who I adore. She can cry better than any actress out there, imo. The Hallmark movie was the general wholesome fare they shell out. Meh.
03.) I dropped a tray of freshly baked cookies onto the dirty floor at work today. I'm awesome. While we were trying to clean up, my manager totally dropped the other tray. LMAO. We had to laugh after that, even though she was a bit peeved at first. My first reaction to all my klutzy adventures is to laugh, but I was at work so I felt horrible because I was wasting a lot of food. :\
04.) My dad and stepmom came to visit me today at work. :) It was a nice surprise. And even though I had just gotten back from lunch, my manager let me sit with them while we had coffee (tea for my dad). Double :).
05.) I bought another 3 DVDs from my employer's DVD sale. Go me. :P
I'm bored now.
